Dr. Minera has been practicing Family Medicine since graduating in 2004 from Warren Hospital Family Practice Residency in New Jersey (An Affiliate of Robert Wood Johnson Medical School/Rutgers). As a Board Certified Obesity Medicine specialist, he has been helping patients of all ages achieve their weight loss goals through medically proven, evidence based, comprehensive and safe methods. His passion for this field and scope of practice comes from not only providing weight loss for his patients but in helping prevent disease, reversing metabolic dysfunction and overall improvement in the quality of life they experience. His focus doesn’t end with weight loss, it continues through strategies for weight loss maintenance. Dr. Minera is married to Dr. Soledad Minera, a local orthodontist. He has a 16-year-old daughter, Sofia and a 10-year-old son, Sebastian. They live and work in Warrenton. In his spare time, he enjoys fun with family, reading, participating in long distance triathlons and martial arts.
Valerie Oare grew up in Yorktown, VA and studied Biology at the University of Mary Washington. She then went on to study Nursing at Riverside School of Nursing. After graduating with her Bachelor’s of Nursing in 2008, she attended George Mason University-George Washington University’s collaborative nurse practitioner program where she earned her Master’s of Science in Nursing. During that time, she also worked as an RN in the Emergency Department. She is a board-certified NP and has practiced family medicine for over 10 years, joining Piedmont Family Practice in June 2012. During this time, she realized that there are so many chronic medical conditions that can be treated by weight loss. Valerie has developed a strong passion for health and overall wellness. Her professional credentials include board certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC) and holds her certificate of advanced education in Obesity Medicine. She is also experienced in IUD insertions, colposcopies, and performing Botox. In her free time, Valerie enjoys spending time with her husband, Reynolds, of 16 years and two sons, James (11) and Noah (7). You can find them on the soccer field, baseball field, or basketball courts in their free time. She also enjoys exercising, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Valerie is extremely excited to be a part of this team. Most of all, she is excited to help our patients achieve their health and wellness goals.
Jess has been a Registered Dietitian since 2014. She is originally from eastern Pennsylvania and graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Nutritional Science. Since 2018, she has focused her interest on bariatrics and weight management. She has experience with patients of all ages and specifically patients who have undergone bariatric surgery. She has lived in Warrenton since 2019 with her husband, Gary, and two children - Charlotte and Jack. She enjoys spending most of her free time with family, gardening, cooking, and rooting for Penn State football. She aims to meet all patients where they are in their weight loss journey and to help them with their goals to a healthier life!
Carmen Escaba received her baccalaureate and master’s degrees from George Mason University. She has been a nurse for over 20 years. She has a special interest in the treatment and management of diabetes and obesity medicine. Carmen is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), Sigma Theta Tau an International Honor Society in Nursing and The Virginia Medical Reserve Corps (MRC). She lives in Haymarket, VA with her husband, two children and their beloved shih tzu, Keiko. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, traveling, and reading. She is also fluent in Spanish.
Shannon Ross grew up in Vienna, Virginia and received her Bachelor’s of Nursing from James Madison University in 2016 and her Master’s of Science from George Mason University in 2022. While going back to school to get her Masters, she worked as an RN in Labor and Delivery. She joined Piedmont Family Practice in February 2023, and quickly realized her passion for obesity medicine. She is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC) and is a member of the National Obesity Medicine Association. Shannon lives in Charles Town, West Virginia with her husband, Jordan, and three cats. In her free time, she enjoys hiking (especially in Harpers Ferry), kayaking, and traveling. Shannon provides individualized and compassionate care to her patients and is dedicated to helping patients meet their health goals.
Kayla graduated from the View Aide Program, Orange County in December 2013 where she studied to become a Nursing Assistant. She is clinically certified through the VA Department of Professions. In October 2021, she went on to study Phlebotomy and became a certified Phlebotomy Technician. She is certified through the National Healthcare Association. Kayla joined Piedmont Family Practice in 2021 and is currently employed by the Bariatric & Metabolic Weight Loss Center which is a subsidiary of Piedmont Family Practice. Her ultimate goal is to go back to school to become a Registered Nurse. In her spare time, Kayla enjoys anything that involves her family.
Anna graduated from the Lord Fairfax Community College Workforce Solutions Program in April of 2019 where she studied and received her Medical Assistant Certification. In June 2019, she went on to study Phlebotomy and became a certified Phlebotomy Technician. She is certified through the National Health career Association. Anna joined Piedmont Family Practice in October of 2018 and joined our team in July of 2022.
